Welcome to Wonderful Housework!
Materials Needed
-
4.0 mm crochet hook (or the size recommended for your yarn)
-
Yarn of your choice (variegated, solid, or color-changing yarns all work beautifully)
Instructions
Step 1: Foundation Row
-
Start by chaining an even number of stitches. (In this example, I chained 12.)
-
Skip the first chain and insert your hook into the second chain from the hook.
-
Work a single crochet (SC) into each chain across the row.
-
After completing the row, chain 2 and turn your work.
Step 2: Puff Stitch Row
-
Into the very first stitch:
-
Yarn over, insert the hook, pull up a loop.
-
Repeat this three times in the same stitch. You should now have six loops on your hook.
-
Yarn over and pull through all six loops at once.
-
Chain 1 to secure the puff.
-
-
Skip the next stitch, and repeat the puff stitch into the following stitch.
-
Continue across the row: Skip 1 stitch, work a puff stitch in the next.
-
At the end, chain 2 and turn your work.
Step 3: Repeating the Pattern
-
Always work puff stitches into the chain spaces (the space right after each puff) from the previous row.
-
Skip each puff itself and focus only on the chain spaces.
-
Repeat the puff stitches across the row.
-
Chain 2 at the end of every row before turning your work.
You can adjust the puff size:
-
If you want larger puffs, yarn over four times instead of three before pulling through all loops.
-
For a looser, more airy fabric, use a larger crochet hook than recommended.
-
For a tighter fabric, use a smaller crochet hook.
Step 4: Finishing the Project
-
When you’re ready to finish:
-
Chain only 1 at the end of your last puff row.
-
Turn and single crochet across the top, inserting your hook into each chain space and stitch.
-
Finish by making a single crochet into the top of the final chain-2 space.
-
Chain 1, cut the yarn, and weave in the ends.
