No added pectin in this cherry jam recipe. 3 ingredients are enough to make delicious cherry jam at home. The recipe requires sugar, lemon juice and cherries.
Cherry Jam Ingredient List
- Half a kilogram of cherries (weigh without removing the seeds)
- 2.5 cups of granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 2.5 cups of granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Cherry Jam Preparation
- Firstly add to 2.5 water glasses of sugar on the cherry fruits and leave them in a bowl or pot for 1 night.
- Wait for 1 night in sugar and start cooking the cherries with the melted sugar on medium heat.
- Stir occasionally while cooking. When it starts to boil, add 1 tablespoon of butter. Collect the foam that accumulates on it.
- After the jam boils, take it to low heat and cook it on low heat for 1.5 hours.
- Add lemon juice towards the last step and cook for a while.
- When the jam thickens, flame off and pour it into the cups. Ready to eat after cooling.
Spoon the jam into sterilised jars and seal. Will keep for six months unopened (cool place, when stored in a dark), or opened in the fridge for three months.
CAN YOU USE FROZEN CHERRIES?
Yes u can use frozen cherries but I recommend using frozen cherries that have seeds and stems removed. The same recipe is used for frozen cherries.
