Recipe:

Can Afyon Delight be made at home? Starting from the question of whether it's possible to make the famous Afyon Lokum with cream, hazelnuts, caramel, and without any ADDITIVES at home, we tried it and it turned out delicious. In terms of flavor and texture, it doesn't fall short of the original creamy Afyon Lokum recipe.

Ingredients for Homemade Afyon Lokum:
For the syrup:
- 3 cups sugar
- 1.5 cups water

For Lokum Texture:
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon citric acid
- Optional: vanilla

For the filling:
- Cream, hazelnuts, pistachios, and caramel

Afyon Lokum Recipe Instructions:
- We start by making the syrup. Boil 3 cups of water and 1.5 cups of sugar. Simmer the syrup for 25 minutes on low heat.

- In a separate bowl, mix 2 cups of milk, 1 cup of cornstarch, and 1 cup of water.

- When the syrup thickens and starts to drip slowly, add the cornstarch mixture and stir. Then add 1 teaspoon of citric acid.

- Cook the Afyon Lokum mixture on low heat, stirring every 5 minutes, for about 1 hour. Remove from heat and pour the Lokum dough onto a parchment paper generously dusted with cornstarch. Roll it out very thinly. While rolling out the Lokum mixture, sprinkle plenty of cornstarch underneath, on top, and on the rolling pin to prevent sticking.

- After smoothing it out, spread cream on one half and caramel on the other half of the thinly rolled Lokum. Optionally, you can spread cream on all of it.

- Place hazelnuts and pistachios inside and roll it up.

- Let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.

- Cut the Afyon Lokum rolls with scissors or a knife and serve. Enjoy your meal!

Making Lokum at home is a laborious process that requires a lot of stirring, but rest assured, your efforts will be well worth it. We made half of our Lokum with cream and the other half with caramel, and both are equally delicious. If you prefer, you can also make plain cream-filled Afyon Lokum.
