Dyeing fabric in a basin, when done correctly, is one of the most practical and effective methods for giving new life to worn-out clothes or changing the color of fabrics you already have but aren't fond of. With basin fabric dyeing, you can easily dye garments and clothes at home.

Materials Needed for Basin Fabric Dyeing:

Powder fabric dye

1 tablespoon of vinegar

1 tablespoon of salt

Approximately 5 liters of hot boiling water

A few drops of dish detergent

Color fixative

How to Dye Fabric in a Basin:

- Determine the number of fabric dye packets needed based on the weight of the fabric to be dyed. 1 packet is required for 200 grams of weight. For heavier items like pants, approximately 2 packets of fabric dye are needed.

- Put the powder fabric dye in a bowl, add vinegar and salt, then pour in half a liter of hot water. Stir to dissolve the dye.

- Wash the garment to be dyed in water.

- Pour 5 liters of boiling water into the basin. The temperature should be around 70 degrees Celsius. Add the dissolved fabric dye to the boiling water and a few drops of dish detergent.

- Place the fabric to be dyed in the colored water and stir continuously with a steel ladle. Using a steel ladle ensures that no dye residue remains on the ladle. Additionally, if you use transparent plastic basins, there won't be any stains left on them either. However, with matte plastic buckets or basins, dye marks may remain after washing.

- The first 10 minutes are crucial in basin fabric dyeing. Stir the garment continuously in the colored water.

- After 10 minutes, stir occasionally and dye in the basin for a total of about 40 minutes.

- At the end of the time, take out the dyed garment and rinse it in water until it runs clear.

- Place the rinsed garment in a basin filled with normal lukewarm water. Add a bottle or package of color fixative to the water without stirring and let it sit for about half an hour.

- After the time is up, take the garment out of the water without rinsing and hang it up to dry while still wet.

- Once dry, the dyed garment is ready for use.

Using a fixative in this basin fabric dyeing method ensures that the color won't fade over time, making the dyeing process long-lasting. Keep in mind that due to the high temperature used for dyeing, consider any potential shrinkage of the garment to be dyed.
