Homemade Hot Dog Recipe - Easy and Delicious!


Hot dogs, also known as "büfe sosisli" in Turkish, are a tasty and popular snack enjoyed outdoors. If you want to make your own hot dogs at home using your own ingredients and achieve the same deliciousness as the ones from the buffet, we're sharing a homemade hot dog recipe for you.

The ingredients for making homemade hot dogs are quite simple, and with this recipe, you can easily recreate the ready-made hot dogs you buy from outside using your own ingredients. Here are the ingredients for homemade hot dogs:

- One packet of buffet sausages (whether they are chicken or meat sausages, long ones work best)
- One tablespoon of ketchup
- Two tablespoons of tomato paste
- Approximately one and a half liters of hot water
- Pickled cucumbers
- Mayonnaise
- Thin, long hamburger buns
- Optional: thinly sliced cheddar cheese

To start making the homemade hot dogs, first heat about one and a half liters of water in a pot on low heat. It doesn't need to boil, just warm up a bit. After the water is slightly warm, add one tablespoon of ketchup and two tablespoons of tomato paste, and stir until the ketchup and paste dissolve in the warm water.

The ketchup and tomato paste will dissolve in the warm water in a short time. Once they are fully dissolved in the water, add the packet of sausages, cover the pot, and let the sausages simmer in the tomato sauce for about 20 minutes on low heat.

While the sausages are simmering in the tomato sauce, cut the long, thin hamburger buns in half (even if they are pre-cut, widen the cut a bit) and heat them in a pan or a sandwich press on low heat for about 3-4 minutes, without pressing too hard, to remove excess moisture and warm them slightly.

After 15-20 minutes, when the sausages have cooked without getting too bloated (note that they will expand due to boiling, so be careful after 15 minutes), open the pot and, using a spoon, moisten the inside of the hamburger bun with the cooked tomato sauce. This step is the secret to the flavor of the hot dogs you find in buffets. After moistening the bun with 1-2 spoonfuls of tomato sauce, add the boiled sausages and place the sliced pickled cucumbers that you've cut lengthwise inside. You can also add optional thinly sliced cheddar cheese.

Finally, you can squeeze mayonnaise on top, according to your preference, and serve. Repeat the same process for all the hot dogs.

The key to making hot dogs at home is to soak the buns in the sauce in which the sausages were boiled. This homemade hot dog recipe will give you a wonderful flavor.
