How to Make a Letter-Shaped Birthday Cake: 'S' Shaped Cake Recipe

Making a Letter-Shaped Birthday Cake is a special way to make the birthday person feel unique and cherished. Since birthdays are special occasions, custom cakes always hold sentimental value and create lasting memories. Typically, for letter-shaped cakes, pre-made molds are purchased in various sizes and then served. However, if you want to make a letter cake at home, we are sharing the recipe for you. In this recipe, we used the letter 'S'. Before moving on to the recipe, you'll need a cardboard template to create the letter shape. You can easily make one by drawing and cutting it out on sturdy paper, similar to craft paper. So, for the letter 'S' cake recipe, having the template is essential.

Ingredients for Letter-Shaped Birthday Cake:
For the Cake (The listed ingredients are for one layer, since it will be a two-layer cake, you'll need to make another cake with the same ingredients):
- 4 eggs
- 1 tea cup of wheat starch
- 1 tea cup of flour
- 1 tea cup of sugar
- Quarter tea cup of warm water
- 1 packet of baking powder
- 1 packet of vanilla extract

For the Filling:
- 4 cups of milk
- Half a cup of flour
- One-third cup of wheat starch
- 1 egg
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 packets of vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 200 grams of cream cheese

For Decoration:
- Fruits, marshmallows, and optional cake decorations

Instructions for Making the Letter-Shaped Birthday Cake:
- Start by separating the yolks and whites of 4 eggs.
- Beat the egg whites with 1 cup of sugar until they form stiff peaks. If the mixture doesn't drip when you turn the bowl upside down, it's ready. Set the egg whites aside.
- In the egg yolks, add a quarter cup of warm water and beat well. Then add flour, starch, baking powder, and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly with a plastic spatula or wooden spoon. It's generally best for the flour mixture to be added after the flour has been sifted into the mixture for good rising and flavor in cake recipes.
- Once everything is well combined, slowly and gently fold in the beaten egg whites from bottom to top without deflating them.
- Spread the prepared cake batter thinly on a parchment paper-lined baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for about 10 minutes.
- Make another layer of cake using the same batter.
- While the cake layers are baking, let's make the filling.
- In a saucepan, mix 4 cups of milk with 1 egg, one-third cup of wheat starch, and 1 cup of sugar. Stir well to avoid lumps before heating on medium heat. Cook until it thickens to a custard-like consistency. Stir regularly to prevent clumping.
- When the mixture starts to bubble, remove it from heat and add 2 packets of vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of butter. Mix well.
- Once all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed and smooth, add 200 grams (one packet) of cream cheese and mix well.
- Cut the cakes into the shape of the letter 'S' using the template. Now you have two 'S' shaped cake layers. You can also use the leftover cake to make small cake sandwiches by placing leftover filling in between.
- Use a piping bag to pipe the filling in a bead shape on the bottom layer of the cake. Piping in bead shapes not only adds visual appeal but also elevates the appearance of the cake.
- Place fruit pieces and chocolate chips along the sides of the filling.
- Then, place the other 'S' layer on top and pipe the filling in bead shapes on the top as well. Let it refrigerate for at least 6 hours.
- After taking it out of the refrigerator, decorate the top with marshmallows, colorful macarons, fruits, and enjoy your presentation.

As you can see, making an 'S' shaped cake involves a bit of effort but with the template, it's quite easy. The decoration part is left to your imagination. You can turn the letter cake into a visual feast with macarons, marshmallows, and chocolate pieces. The video demonstrating the recipe was recorded by ourselves and can be found below this text.
